Taylor Savage is a jazz saxophonist from Durham, NC. He is a graduate of Rutgers University where he received his Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies while studying under world-renowned saxophonist and educator Ralph Bowen. Taylor received instruction from many other great jazz educators while at Rutgers, including Conrad Herwig, Stanley Cowell, Charles Tolliver and Lewis Porter. As an undergraduate student at Furman University Taylor studied classical and jazz saxophone under Dr. Matt Olson and earned degrees in both History and Music.
Taylor has had the privilege of sharing the stage with many great musicians while a member of school ensembles, including Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, Mike Smith, Chris Vadala, Mike Kocour, Jeff Helgesen, Sean Jones, Tom “Bones” Malone, Byron Stripling and Terrell Stafford. His educational experiences also included performances at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Blue Note Jazz Club (NY) as well as live on WBGO Jazz 88.3 Newark.
Taylor currently works as the Assistant Jazz Instructor for the Panther Creek High School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo and is also the Woodwind Instructor for the Panther Creek Marching Band throughout their fall season. Taylor serves as the musical director of the Durham Jazz Orchestra, a local community ensemble. He teaches lessons and clinics in area schools and is an active performer throughout North Carolina in a variety of ensembles as well.
