YOUTH SUMMER JAZZ CAMP
Summer camp: July 13 to July 17, and July 20 to July 24, 2026
Hours: 9am - 12pm daily
The Durham Jazz Workshop is now accepting middle and high school instrumentalists and vocalists for its Summer Youth Jazz Camp. There will be two separate sessions this year. One from July 13 to July 17 and the other from July 20 to July 24. The camp will run from 9 am to 12 PM Monday through Friday. The camp is open to middle and High school students: brass (trumpet, trombone), saxophone (alto, tenor, baritone and soprano), Piano, guitar, bass, drums, and vocalists. The camp provides Pianos, complete drum sets, and amps, so students don't have to bring their own.
Jazz Combos (students will be placed into groups according to level, not age).
Middle school and high school students can apply. The camp is not a beginner instrumental class, so students should be fairly advanced on their instruments and have a working knowledge of scales to get the most out of it. On the first day of camp students will be divided into 3 groups based on their level and experience in jazz.
Beginner groups will learn some core jazz songs and be introduced to improvisation. More advanced students will also learn an essential jazz standard repertoire and are expected to have had some prior improvisation knowledge.
Spots are limited to keep group small to provide a great learning and fun experience.
Tuition is $450 per session. (financial aid)
A recital will be held on the last day of each session at 11 am on our stage @Sharp9Gallery.
