YOUTH COMBOS
Youth Combos: Winter/Spring Semester start Saturday: January 17, 2026: 10:30am - 12pm or Tuesday: January 20, 2026 6:30-8pm.
Description: Students are placed into groups based on level and work on small group jazz. Open to middle and high school students. Students do not need prior jazz experience, but should have several years of playing on their instrument. Generally we run beginner, intermediate and advanced combos. Students work on classic small group repertoire of Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane etc....
Winter/Spring Semester: Saturday Youth Combo: January 17 - April 25, 2026 (Concert)
Tuesday Youth Combo: January 20 - April 21, 2026 (Concert)
Tuition is $400 for the winter/spring semester (groups meet 12-13 times during the semester))

The DJW instructors are some of the best area performers/teachers. They motivate students to explore Jazz and develop the language necessary to improvise in a homegrown cultural art form.
Financial aid scholarships are available based on financial needs. The Durham Jazz Workshop never turns down an eligible student based on money.
