Description/Details:
- Each camp will run 3 hours each day for 5 days. The last day will feature a 1 hour concert (tbd if the general public will be able to attend)
- The camp will focus on improving each participant as an individual, as a section member and as part of a large jazz ensemble.
- Good musical fundamentals involving listening within your section and across the bandstand will be emphasized.
- Instruction will address lead playing, section playing, improvising and understanding the “mapping” of a big band composition/arrangement.
- The goal is to have fun, work hard, improve a great deal, acquire new skills and habits and fall in love with the sound of a jazz orchestra/large jazz ensemble.
- Tuition: The cost for the weeklong workshop is $300. Financial aid is available for students in need. For more information on how to apply, email: djazzworkshop@gmail.com
- All selected students need to show proof of vaccination including a booster.
Auditions:
- We ask each student to record themselves on the audition materials listed below and email the audio files to djazzworkshop@gmail.com. Recordings can be done by making a simple “voice memos” recording from your iphone or android phone. In many cases the “voice memos” app is already included on the phone. You can often email the recording file directly from your phone, or send to your computer and then attach it to an email. You can send one file with all the listed items or separate into multiple files. You can choose to use background tracks or play unaccompanied when making your recordings. Recordings need to be emailed by June 1.
